My At-Home Microdermabrasion Recipe.

I have been on the fence about purchasing the Clarisonic for quite some time now. However, I was able to test out one for a few weeks, and it was so similar to what I ALREADY do! What you need for this recipe: -An electronic toothbrush such as the CVS Professional Clean Power Toothbrush in "Soft" -Honey -Non-coated aspirin (the cheap Dollar General bottle will do. You need it to be non-coated, so that you can dissolve the aspirin.) -Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Can be omitted for those with oily skin) Here is my personal Recipe: ALWAYS start with CLEAN hands! Take 3-5 aspirin in your palm or put into a small dish. Take a drop of water on your finger and dab each aspirin with 1-2 drops. This will cause the aspirin to dissolve. After the water has been absorbed, and the aspirin has expanded, use your fingers to crush up the aspirin into a grainy texture. Take a teaspoon of honey (or a tad bit more if you'd like) and mix it into the grainy aspirin powder. Take a teaspoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and mix this into the honey/aspirin mixture. Set the mixture aside. Now, wash your face as usual. Leave your face wet or damp. Take the mixture and apply it all over your face in big circular motions. DO NOT Over scrub your face! You will be using the toothbrush to do that! :) While it's still wet, take your electronic toothbrush and turn it on. Make small circular movements all over your face. Don't press it into your skin, just lightly scrub your face. After about 1.5-2 minutes of doing this, Take a wet warm or hot wash cloth and apply it on top of your face for about a minutes. Gently wipe off. Rinse with warm water afterwards if needed. And then pat dry. I would suggest doing this every other day or maybe twice a week. (Any more than that will cause skin irritation.) The Aspirin will reduce the appearance of acne and acne scarring, all while exfoliating your skin. Honey is a natural astringent, and will help cleanse whatever dirt and debris are left on your skin. The Olive Oil will soften your skin while cleansing it as well. :) Due to my schedule, I do this about once a week. It helps fight the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and discolorations while resurfacing new skin cells for a brighter complexion. Do any of you have any homemade recipes to improve the look and feel of your skin? If so, what are they, and how well do they work?

  1. When something goes wrong with your facial skin as a result of acne breakouts, burns or aging and there are large pores prominent on your skin then you should always go for microdermabrasion with ultrasound.

  2. Nikki I love that you are always trying new things and are willing to share your techniques that you have tried yourself. I see no issues with your process or your ingredients and feel that if you can achieve great results with these inexpensive products, rather than feeling driven to spend excessive amounts of money for whichever current product is being flogged as the thing we must have, and it encourages us all to consider practicing a good skincare regimen regardless of our disposable income level. Cheers and kudos to you!

    1. Microdermabrasion removes the dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin. In doing so, it reveals fresher and more vibrant skin! This can be something so simple as adding a pinch of small granulated sugar to your face wash. It should only be done 1-3 times a week in most cases, and by removing the dead skin cells, you are allowing the newer "younger" skin cells to shine through! :D There are plenty of websites and products that you can use to do this, however: using a wet wash rag at home is PERFECT for exfoliating one's skin. It's gentle, it will remove dead skin cells AND it makes your face squeaky clean! ;)

  4. Thanks for sharing! A homemade routine I'd like to share is using facial steam. It’s very easy to do, and you can do it once or twice a month. All you need is to boil a few cups of water with a half cup of apple cider vinegar, then let your face absorb the steam. After 10-15 minutes, rinse your face with a cold water; this will help you minimize the appearance of pores and give you a glowing skin. Cheers!
